“A reputable transition in Iran is urgently wanted,” she posted on X after a name with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar. “This should imply the halt of Iran’s army nuclear and ballistic missile programmes and the tip of destabilising actions on air, land and at sea. Above all, it should replicate and help the democratic aspirations of the courageous folks of Iran.”

The transition to a brand new supreme chief below the present Iranian system is dealt with by 88 clergymen within the Meeting of Consultants.

Qatar has come below heavy barrages from Iran, which is retaliating in opposition to a U.S.-Israeli assault on its territory aimed toward destroying its nuclear services and ballistic missile capabilities, along with toppling the Islamist regime.

“With the area in deep upheaval, Qatar can depend on sturdy European solidarity,” von der Leyen mentioned in her publish on X on Sunday.

Qatar shot down waves of Iranian missiles fired at targets inside its territory over the weekend. On Saturday, the ensuing shrapnel injuring 16 folks, in keeping with Al Jazeera. On Sunday, a small fireplace brought on by falling particles was shortly contained.

Von der Leyen referred to as the Iranian strikes on Qatar “reckless and indiscriminate.”

What an Iranian transition of energy, if any, will seem like is unclear, not least as a result of the nation lacks a unified opposition.

Reza Pahlavi, son of the pro-Western Shah toppled in Iran’s 1979 revolution, is positioning himself as a possible candidate to steer the nation away from dictatorship to democracy.
