LONDON — The chief of the Worldwide Atomic Vitality Company on Saturday expressed “critical concern” after Moscow accused Ukrainian forces of launching a drone assault on the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Energy Plant in southern Ukraine — an allegation that Kyiv denied.
The incident can be the primary drone assault inside the ZNPP perimeter since April 2024, the IAEA mentioned in a press release posted to X. Russian forces captured the location within the opening days of Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in early 2022. The power now sits round 30 miles from the closest portion of the entrance line.

Grossi warned that “attacking nuclear websites is like taking part in with hearth,” the IAEA wrote, including that it requested “entry to look at the affected turbine constructing first-hand.”
Ukraine’s Southern Protection Forces — a army grouping which oversees the southern entrance — denied the Russian allegation and accused Moscow of participating in “nuclear terrorism.”
