Murrell is the ex-husband of the previous SNP chief Nicola Sturgeon, who has mentioned she has “no data or suspicion by any means that [Murrell] was utilizing SNP funds for private functions.” A legal inquiry cleared Sturgeon in March; in January 2025, she introduced she was divorcing the disgraced former social gathering official.
