A strong 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck close to the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka area, the US Geological Survey stated.

The key earthquake triggered a short tsunami warning, the second-highest alert stage, throughout the area and as distant as Alaska, although no injury was reported. It was lifted about two hours later.

The earthquake struck at 6.58am native time on Friday with its epicentre 127km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a metropolis of simply 165,000 individuals, in keeping with the company.
