Myanmar’s military-backed authorities eliminated or destroyed no less than 15 statues of Gen. Aung San, who led the nation to independence from British rule and was the daddy of jailed former State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, residents inform Radio Free Asia.

In June, authorities demolished a bronze Aung San statue in Zee Kone, Bago Area. On July 1, officers demolished one statue in Mya Kan Thar Park in Thaketa Township and two statues in Thumingalar Park in South Okkalapa Township, Yangon, fencing them off. Residents inform RFA authorities authorities are monitoring the websites in order that nobody can take pictures.
