The taxi driver who took Axel Rudakubana to the scene of the Southport assault didn’t name emergency providers till 50 minutes after listening to screams on the Hart Area, having picked up one other fare first.

Driver Gary Poland, who picked up Rudakubana from his dwelling in Banks, Lancashire, stated he “regretted” not stopping to assist the kids that he noticed fleeing from the constructing in his rearview mirror as he drove away.

He stated he threatened to name the police on Rudakubana after he refused to pay for his trip. When Rudakubana went contained in the constructing, the place the Taylor Swift-themed dance class was being held, Mr Poland assumed he was going to get cash.

He informed the Southport inquiry that he thought Rudakubana was capturing at individuals inside, and believed that he was at risk of being a goal after the dispute over the taxi fare. On Monday, the inquiry heard that after Rudakubana didn’t pay, Mr Poland stated: “You pay now or the police are on the f****** manner, you knob.”

He stated he didn’t test on the kids’s welfare as a result of he was in whole shock. “This was terrifying. I used to be in a state of full mortal terror and shock.”

A senior investigator stated Mr Poland would have been “morally” anticipated to name emergency providers sooner.

Rudakubana murdered Alice da Silva Aguiar, 9, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and tried to kill 10 others after he entered the dance class.

One minute after leaving Hart Avenue, Mr Poland phoned his pal, Julian Medlock, who ran a close-by storage. Within the name transcript, he stated: “He simply f****** shot everybody ain’t he?”

Mr Poland informed the inquiry that he picked up Rudakubana, whose identify was listed as Simon, from his dwelling, and the pair drove in silence earlier than arriving at Hart Avenue at 11.44am. Mr Poland stated he was given no motive to be suspicious in the course of the trip.

He didn’t realise that Rudakubana was armed with a knife, and informed the inquest that he would have disarmed him if he had identified. Nicholas Moss, counsel to the general public inquiry, requested: “You’d have gotten out and disarmed him, you assume?”

Mr Poland stated: “Yeah. It is solely a knife.”
