In preparation, Mr Jelgersma and a big group of membership members spent a lot of Saturday ensuring the jumps have been the correct form, and placing lime on the monitor and smoothing it out, to create a floor with good sturdy grip for the riders.

“A few times a 12 months we resurface the monitor with a particular mix of lime and oxide, to maintain it from washing away within the Dunedin climate.

“It turns into a tough floor and protects the clay beneath.

“It ought to all be in shipshape for the occasions in a few weeks.”

Membership president Paula Hansen stated riders could be coming from throughout the South Island, and probably some from the North Island, and the rivals anticipated fairly a high-quality monitor.

She stated the membership hoped to place in a bid to host the nationwide BMX championships in 2029.

“However to get them right here, there’s a wee bit that should occur on the monitor earlier than that may occur.

“To have the nationals right here, it could be perfect to have issues like energy — and bogs could be the principle one.

“Clearly, there’d be a lot of fundraising required for that.”

Having the nationwide championships in Dunedin could be nice for the town, she stated.

“It’ll result in 600 riders, plus households into city — fairly lots of people.”
