Royal Mail issues quacking collection of stamps celebrating duck species

A brand new set of stamps is being issued to have a good time the various vary of untamed and domesticated geese discovered within the UK.

The stamps have photographs of 10 duck species and breeds together with goosander, Indian runner, mallard duckling, aylesbury and the eider.

Royal Mail labored with Steve Ormerod, Professor of Ecology, Water Analysis Institute/Cardiff Faculty of Biosciences at Cardiff College, and waterfowl creator, Dr Chris Ashton, on the stamps.

There are greater than 120 species of duck worldwide, together with 22 discovered within the UK.

David Gold, Royal Mail’s director of exterior affairs and coverage, stated: “We’re happy to showcase the sweetness and number of wild and domesticated duck species discovered throughout the UK, celebrating our wealthy wetland wildlife.

“Most of us will recognise a few of the geese on these stamps however we hope that the set will assist to lift consciousness of the much less well-known species.”

Mr Ormerod stated: “The UK’s wild geese are among the many most elegant of all our birds. Their range of life histories, behaviours and calls evokes the character of habitats starting from native ponds, lochans and lakes to rivers, wetlands and coasts.

“Geese have additionally performed a central function within the human historical past of animal domestication – for instance for meals, pest management or as protected ‘uncommon breeds’.  This spectrum from cultural connection to wilderness is widely known on this lovely assortment of Royal Mail stamps.”

The stamps, and a spread of collectible merchandise, can be found to pre-order from at the moment and go on basic sale from September 11.
