A jaguar severely wounded by gunfire was rescued from Brazil’s Rio Negro in a dramatic operation led by Amazonas state authorities.
In accordance with the Impartial, on October 1, army police patrolling the river noticed the massive cat struggling to remain afloat. Video of the rescue reveals the jaguar cautiously swimming towards a ship. In response, officers made a flotation system to provide the animal one thing to cling to as a substitute of forcing it to tread water.

As soon as secured, the jaguar was transported to shore, the place wildlife veterinarians from the Federal College of Amazonas (UFAM) and the State Secretariat for Animal Safety (SEPAT) took over. Medical exams revealed that the animal had sustained a number of gunshot wounds, damaged enamel, and bullet fragments lodged below its pores and skin. It’s now below intensive care.
At current, authorities haven’t decided who shot the jaguar.
