Punjab Deputy Inspector Normal (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was arrested on Thursday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes, has been suspended.
The 2009-batch IPS officer was suspended with impact from Thursday. On Friday, he issued a press release denying the allegations.
On being requested if he’s being framed, he stated, “Completely.”
He allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 8 lakh along with month-to-month unlawful gratification via his intermediary Krishanu for “settling” a 2023 FIR registered towards a scrap seller from Mandi Gobindgarh named Akash Batta.
The case towards Bhullar was registered after a written grievance filed by scrap seller Akash Batta from Fatehgarh Sahib. He alleged that DIG Bhullar had threatened to border him in a false prison case until he paid Rs 8 lakh as an preliminary bribe and agreed to make month-to-month funds after that.
In accordance with the CBI’s First Info Report (FIR), Bhullar had instructed that funds be made via his affiliate Krishna, who repeatedly pressured the complainant. In a single intercepted dialog, Krishna allegedly stated, “The August cost was not paid, the September cost was not paid.”
