India’s Solely Energetic Volcano In Andaman’s Barren Island Erupts
Minor volcanic eruptions have been noticed twice inside eight days at Barren Island within the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, officers reported on Monday.
Barren Island is acknowledged as India’s solely lively volcano.
The volcano skilled eruptions on September 13 and 20, although these have been minor in nature, officers said.

Located roughly 140 km from Port Blair by sea, this uninhabited island is situated on the junction of the Indian and Burmese tectonic plates.
Barren Island covers an space of 8.34 sq km, with the closest inhabited places being Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island) and Narcondam Island, each round 140-150 km away.
In keeping with knowledge from the Andaman and Nicobar administration, the primary eruption at Barren Island occurred in 1787, adopted by minor eruptions in 1991, 2005, 2017, and 2022.
