Home Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was torn aside on social media on Friday after feedback he made in regards to the upcoming midterm elections and what would occur to President Donald Trump’s allies if Democrats took management of Congress.
Johnson, in what he possible meant as a warning to the GOP, predicted quite a few Trump and Republican-adjacent figures can be investigated if Democrats prevail in November.
“They may flip each committee of Congress into an investigative physique, and so they’ll go after the president’s household, the cupboard, his donors and associates, half of you on this room might be focused. I run the safety program. I’ll care for you. We’re going to win the midterms,” he continued.
Some critics jumped on Johnson’s use of the phrase “safety program,” likening it to what a “mob boss from Brooklyn” would say, whereas others recommended Johnson’s feedback had been tantamount to an admission of prison exercise.
Some commenters identified that Congress’s job is to not “defend the President and his household.”
“It’s to supply checks and balances on the Govt Department. You’re rattling proper we are going to examine crimes and corruption,” Missouri congressional candidate Fred Wellman wrote on X.
