City protests end without serious incident

Auckland Police say the 2 protest teams gathered within the metropolis space have now dispersed.

From the outset, police say they made it clear there could be no illegal entry on to the motorway community or Auckland Harbour Bridge at present, Saturday, January 31.

At Victoria Park, at its protest peak, police say they estimated 1200 folks gathered and marched to the Fanshawe Road police cordon, earlier than dispersing.

The police officer in cost, Superintendent Naila Hassan, the Waitematā Police district commander, says: “No arrests have been made at present.

“I’m immensely pleased with all of the police workers deployed on at present’s operation for his or her professionalism in response to this occasion.

“Right now’s operation has been profitable in conserving folks protected and minimising any disruption to the broader public.

“Pleasingly, Aucklanders have been in a position to largely go about their weekend with out incident,” says Hassan.

“We thank the general public for his or her understanding, notably these motorists who had been briefly stopped on the Northern Motorway earlier at present.

“All cordons and closures have been lifted. Nevertheless, the police operation stays energetic,” Hassan said at 3.45pm.

“Police will proceed to observe for any points which may come up.”
