BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 7. The power
cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan considerably contributes
to reaching the EU’s goal, as outlined within the REPowerEU plan,
to remove dependency on Russian fossil gas imports, together with
pure fuel, Commissioner for Power and Housing, Dan Jørgensen,
stated in his written reply to a parliamentary query, Development

“Since 2021, fuel provides from Azerbaijan to the EU by means of the
Southern Fuel Hall (SGC) have elevated by over 40%.
Importantly, the SGC is solely related to Azerbaijani fuel
fields and never built-in with the broader Azerbaijani nationwide fuel
system. Consequently, it doesn’t facilitate the transportation of
Russian fuel to the EU,” he famous.
Jørgensen identified that Azerbaijan imported lower than 1
billion cubic meters of pure fuel from Russia for home
consumption in 2023.
“These imports decreased sharply in 2024 and 2025. In distinction,
Azerbaijan’s complete pure fuel exports exceeded 25 billion cubic
meters in 2024, with roughly half destined for the EU market.
The distinction in these volumes highlights the distinct magnitudes
concerned,” he added.
The Commissioner additional famous that the EU continues to actively
assist lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“It’s essential that each nations proceed to make progress on
their path in direction of full-fledged normalisation of relations. On this
context, the EU strongly commends each side for the initialling of
their bilateral peace treaty on 8 August 2025 in Washington, DC,
marking a major breakthrough to finish many years of battle. The
