INS Arnala, the Indian Navy’s first indigenously designed and constructed Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), marks a major milestone in India’s transition from a “Purchaser’s Navy” to a “Builder’s Navy”, highlighting the rising power of home shipbuilding below the Aatmanirbhar Bharat imaginative and prescient.INS Arnala is the lead ship of a brand new class of Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft designed for operations in coastal and shallow waters, the place detecting and monitoring hostile submarines is especially difficult.The vessel has been indigenously designed and constructed by Backyard Attain Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) below a ministry of defence programme aimed toward strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem.Named after the historic Arnala Fort off Vasai in Maharashtra, the warship displays the Navy’s custom of linking its vessels with India’s maritime heritage.
